Sedimentation Blues

By Peter Balfe, then at the Department of Genetics in University College of Swansea
[From New Scientist Magazine, 7 October 1982, p. 52.]
Woke up this mornin'
Felt so sick, shoulda stayed in bed.
But Ah struggled to ma feet
An' Ah came to work instead.
Now Ah'm bringin' ma centrifuge down
Collectin' samples to be read.
No idea when Ah'll be thru'
Ah've got those DNA sucrose sedimentation density gradient blues.

Well Ah treated ma cells,
Gave 'em so much, shoulda all been dead.
But when Ah comes to look
The buggers grew better instead
So Ah'm workin' survival curves out
L D 50's in ma head.
Dunno what I'm gonna do
Ah've got those DNA sucrose sedimentation density gradient blues.

Its single strand breakin' ma heart
Sends me right back to the start
An' when they send for the man
In the little white van
Ah'll be tearin' the Beckman apart
Then Ah'll sure be thru'
Ah've got those DNA sucrose sedimentation density gradient blues.

Oh Yeah.
